THE STORY
August 27th, 1940,
was a bright day and a smartly dressed 19-year-old
Greek prince who lived down
Chatham Street, Colombo, in an annex
of Admiral’s House
walked down the street. Suddenly he spotted a little
car and wanted to own it
because he had never owned a car of his own.
He was a handsome midshipman
serving in the peaceful tropical paradise
of Sri-Lanka, then the

registration number X8468 priced at £12- equal to
SEVEN weeks’ pay for a
midshipman, he decided to purchase it.

Consequent
on a transfer from Winston Guy Boshier, I, H.R.H Prince Philip of
Greece, Mid.R.N of Admiral’s House,
Colombo, declare that I am entitled to
the
possession of motor car NO X8468 and hereby apply to be registered as the
owner thereof.
Nowadays he is of course
better known as H.R.H Prince Philip husband
of
our own H.R.H Queen Elizabeth 2. He now has of course a choice of
a dazzling array of cars to
choose from in the Royal Mews at Buckingham
