Launched in October 1938 first as the Flying 8
saloon it was soon followed by the drop head coupe and tourer. |
The Standard Motor Company stand at the Earls Court Motor Show 1938 drew many people. Seen here H.R.H the Duke Of Kent being shown the New Flying 8 tourer by Captain J.P.Black. |
Sadly the production was cut short in August 1939 by the outbreak of World War 2 |

1940 also saw a few 8hp chassis equipped with box bodies for use as ymca tea dispensers! |

Birth of the “JUNGLE BUG!!!!” Modified engine intended for airborne operations |

The eights were available in ‘Gold Star’ form |

THE ENTRIES FOR JUDGING Despite the terrible weather reports most of the entries made it to the show. Arriving in the rain and even being judged in the rain. At least most managed a dry run home safely. |
